Government officials, business leaders, entrepreneurs and community advocates gathered in Rockville to discuss unity, inclusion and economic opportunity

On October 27, 2026, government officials, business leaders, entrepreneurs and community advocates gathered at Rockville Memorial Library in Maryland for a Business Roundtable devoted to economic development, business opportunity and community empowerment. FQM Washington correspondent Dr. Bruno Mazali attended the event, which was hosted by the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives and the Governor’s Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs, in partnership with the Montgomery County Office of Procurement.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich was the special guest speaker. According to Dr. Mazali’s report, Elrich emphasized unity, diversity and inclusion, as well as the important contributions of Asian American and immigrant communities to the county’s economic growth. He highlighted the role of immigrant-owned businesses and entrepreneurs in creating jobs, strengthening local businesses and contributing to Montgomery County’s prosperity.

Elrich also reaffirmed the county’s commitment to welcoming businesses, encouraging entrepreneurship and connecting residents with opportunities and resources. He recognized the community members, organizations and business leaders whose work continues to support a thriving and inclusive Montgomery County.

Rockville Mayor Monique Ashton spoke about expanding economic opportunity and opening doors for small businesses and entrepreneurs. She emphasized the importance of connecting business owners with available resources, funding opportunities, business-development assistance and government programs designed to support them at every stage. Her remarks also stressed accessible leadership, collaboration and the importance of ensuring that businesses from different backgrounds have opportunities to succeed.

Dr. Tariq Ahmed Nizami, founder and chief executive of CEO Clubs Network Worldwide, also participated in the roundtable. Dr. Mazali noted his commitment to international business networking, entrepreneurship and strategic partnerships, and the importance of connecting business leaders across communities and borders.

Dr. Mazali expressed special appreciation to Dr. Yang Yu, chair of the Governor’s Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs, for her dedicated leadership, coordination and commitment to bringing communities and business leaders together. He also thanked the organizers, government representatives, community leaders and participants who contributed to the gathering.

The roundtable carried a clear message: when government, businesses and communities come together around a shared purpose, they can strengthen the economy and expand opportunity. By building bridges, supporting entrepreneurs and encouraging collaboration, Montgomery County can continue to empower immigrant communities and create a stronger future for its residents.
