The Cowboy Trend Rides into Autumn Fashion 2025

Updated: Oct 3

The cowboy style has never resonated more strongly than in recent months. Beyoncé’s Carter Tour, which concluded this summer, marked a first since the early 2000s—and the trend is far from over. This autumn, numerous Western-inspired pieces will be in the spotlight for both men and women.

The trend was first sparked by the critically acclaimed series Yellowstone, then embraced and reimagined by Beyoncé through her Ivy Park x adidas Rodeo capsule collection, inspired by her childhood and celebrating the legacy of African-American cowgirls and cowboys. Her Carter Tour was another homage to African-American culture, followed by her U.S. and European tour. And yes—you’ve probably noticed: supermodel Bella Hadid has also played a major role since 2023 in popularizing the American Western aesthetic.

Since the 19th century, this captivating style has influenced fashion, wrapping silhouettes in the spirit of the Wild West with style and warmth. In September, Post Malone opened the trend season by launching his first clothing line, Season One, for his brand Austin Post. Hosted at the prestigious Hôtel Pozzo di Borgo, once Karl Lagerfeld’s residence, the show presented a modern vision of cowboy style inspired by the artist’s life. The highlight? Post Malone appearing on horseback in a total denim look, accessorized with a wide belt, hat, and boots—a resounding success.

For the occasion, a pop-up shop opened in Paris’s Marais district and another in New York on September 19–20, attracting crowds and enthusiasm. This excitement continues into the Fall/Winter 2025 season, where cowboy fashion takes center stage on the runways. Designers like Isabel Marant, Ralph Lauren, Maje, and Gabriela Hearst pay tribute by reinterpreting iconic pieces: boots, fringes, and denim, whether in a full-on cowboy look or in subtle touches.

This summer, hashtags like #FrenchCowboy, #NeoWestern, and #CowgirlChic set social media alight, while the coastal cowgirl trend captivated fashionistas. Far from fading, couture Western style shines for Autumn/Winter 2025. Here’s a look at the key pieces of the season.

Fringed Coat

Available in understated versions at Maje, Mango, and Guess, and in bolder, more eccentric styles at Schiaparelli and Dolce & Gabbana, the fringe coat—deeply rooted in cowboy and cowgirl culture—could well become your go-to piece for warmth when the temperatures begin to drop.

Jackets

When it comes to jackets, the choices are plentiful. For women, designs in black or blue denim, leather, or fringed suede in earthy tones are particularly appealing. This summer already saw a surge of interest in these western-inspired pieces, and the trend continues into fall.

For men, jackets in similar tones stand out: suede or leatherclassic denim, or shearling-lined versions. These staples are undeniable must-haves for anyone looking to embrace the western look with style.

Shirts

The plaid shirt, first worn on screen by Barbara Stanwyck in 1935, makes a striking comeback for fall/winter 2025. Denim shirts also return as western icons, alongside white blouses with lace details that add a romantic, airy, and graceful touch.

For men, the plaid shirt—popularized in Hollywood westerns of the 1930s–1950s—remains essential, joined by blue or black denim shirts. Both trends highlight masculine charm and ruggedness while keeping the western aesthetic alive. The plaid shirt, first worn on screen by Barbara Stanwyck in 1935, makes a striking comeback for fall/winter 2025. Denim shirts also return as western icons, alongside white blouses with lace details that add a romantic, airy, and graceful touch.

Origins of the Cowboy Trend

Originating between the 1860s and 1890s during America’s westward expansion, western style has reappeared by decades—resurfacing in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s. Propelled by Hollywood westerns of the 1930s–1950s, it returns today stronger than ever, reinvented through fringes, denim, suede, and cowboy boots.

This fall and winter, the western look transforms us all into modern legends—whether through a head-to-toe statement or subtle versatile pieces. The possibilities are endless.
